Hi all,
Well I’m still here in Chengdu, it looks like we have a fairly clear idea of where we are at now. We have started to have a few arguments here and there, but after having a good discussion about them we both agree that the reasons for them are mostly circumstancial and that things should work out between us. We will be here at our hotel in the city centre until tuesday when Haixiao will go to stay with her parents (her mum will be going to the hospital for surgery on either Tuesday or Wednesday) and I will be joining her there either one or two days later. *groan*
We have been having a good time here and I am really getting used to how ‘life’ is here in Chengdu now. Earlier tonight while I was looking out at a section of the city skyline from our tiny little balcony I came to the realisation that actually I quite like the place.
Last night we were at the traditional (tourist) street again after having a hot pot for dinner and there was a white guy there talking with 4 chinese people so I decided to ask him in chinese if he spoke english (because I was keen for some company with people who can speak english) and it turns out that he was german but he had lived in america for several years as a foreign exchange student so his english was quite good. He had met his wife (called May) who came from Chengdu to Germany where she was a student at the same university as him and it was great to hear their story - I think Haixiao got a lot out of it and it gives us both confidence that our relationship can work despite the distance and cultural differences. Anyway we exchanged phone numbers and we should catch up another time.
Unfortunately I am going to cut this short because it is getting late but I hope to update some more soon! and there will be some more cool photos to come too
Take care,
Will
